Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounces) package of phyllo dough
- 1 pound of assorted nuts (almonds, walnuts, and pistachios), finely chopped
- 1 tsp of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of butter, melted
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter the bottom and sides of your baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this until you have layered 8 sheets.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the buttered phyllo.
- Repeat the layering of phyllo and nuts until the nuts are all used, finishing with about 8 layers of phyllo.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes all the way to the bottom of the dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, or until the baklava is golden and crisp.
- While the baklava is baking, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes.
- Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over it. Let it cool completely before serving.

Remember to keep your phyllo dough covered with a damp towel when working to prevent it from drying out. You can adjust the type of nuts based on your preference.
